Yummy Yum Yum

Yesterday, Joseph and Matthew saw a kids cooking program. They were making cake and fruit punch. Matthew wanted to eat cake. Joseph wanted to bake a cake. Unfortunately, we didn't have all the ingredients. Mabye it was fortunate since I wasn't really feeling up to baking a cake.

So, today my boys and I spent the day baking banana muffins and peanut
butter cookies. The banana muffins were over mixed by my boys, but that's
okay. Oh and Matthew decided to put a little surprise in it too... pieces of 생선전 he was eating earlier. I caught him before he put too much in or maybe it was Joseph who caught Matthew and alerted me. Either way, I didn't throw out the batter and just baked it. Ewwww, you might say, but you really can't taste it.

I also made 약식 (Yak Shik) for the first time. Joseph doesn't like 약식 so he didn't have any. Matthew was taking his nap so he had a little bit afterwards.

Then I made tuna quesadilla. I think I told them it was a tuna melt. Oh well, doesn't matter... my boys liked it.

It's fun cooking with the kids. They get so excited, but it gets quite messy too. I was a bit impatient today and it wasn't as fun as it could have been. Next time I need to take breathe deeply a couple of times and enjoy just being able to spend time with my kids.

떡복기

We went to Kelly 언니's house on Tuesday (July 28, 2009). She made us 간장 떡복기. It was her first attempt and it was pretty good. A little too sweet. She packed on the sugar near the end. We liked it, but the kids didn't seem to enjoy it as much as we thought they would. To the left is a picture of her with her creation.

Today, I thought I do a little experimentation myself. I tried my hand at making Pineapple 간장 떡복기. I made due with what ingredients I had which wasn't much. I didn't have to use any sugar. The natural juices from the pineapple chucks did the trick. It turned out pretty well. My two sons seemed to like it. Matthew loves mushrooms so that's what he started eating first. That little guy is somewhat of a health nut.

Playdate - Dominic's House

We had a good time with Dominic today minus the bee sting Matthew got.
Eun Jeong prepared a lot of yummy snacks.
Joseph and Matthew didn't go into the pool.
They just played around and near it.
Matthew was playing at the water station Eun Jeong set up when a bee came by.
I saw it and tried to swoosh it away, but it decided to land on Matthew's hand.
Before I knew it Matthew pinched the bee with his two fingers.
The bee of course stung him.
I saw the stinger and pulled it out. I'm not quite sure if it came all out though.
Another mom who happened to be at the pool gave us a scare.
She said we should rush to the hospital.
So she put Eun Jeong and me in a panic when we were pretty calm ourselves.
Yeah... so we rushed to urgent care near by.
They didn't accept our insurance so we decided to go back to Eun Jeong's house.
I wasn't going to pay $100+ for a bee sting.
I'm not putting a price on my son's well-being.
I just didn't feel this was a situation to fork out that much money.
If Matthew was allergic to bees or showed any serious signs
I would probably have seen the doctor.
While all this was happening we talked to several people...
Everybody from my husband to Jihee 언니, who is a nurse...etc.
Oh what a day...
Matthew was a brave little boy though.
He cried a bit ... 아퍼, 아퍼... 벌래가 물었어.
After awhile though he was playing again as if a bee never stung him.
Gosh... as a mother I try to be prepared for these things,
but when an acutal stituation occurs it's quite difficult to remember.
All in all... go with your motherly instincts because it's almost always right.

Okay now go here for some pictures from today.

Playdate - Alf Museum/ Memorial Park

Today we went to the Alf Museum and Memorial Park in Claremont.
It was good to see familar faces from Mommy/Daddy and Me.
The museum was hot especially the ground floor.
That we didn't like very much.
Matthew seemed to be afraid at first, but he started warming up to the place.
I'm not sure if Joseph and Matthew really liked the place as interesting as it was.
We'll see if they ask me to go again.

Memorial Park was pretty cool.
We never been to a park with a wading pool.
The boys weren't really interested in going in the water.
King of a good thing because I forgot the bag with all of the boys extra clothes.
They basically sat and ate.
That's what my boys do best when we go out.
They get all the good stuff while all the other kids are playing.
While the other kids had fun in the water my boys played in the playground.
They love sand.

After lunch and playing awhile we said our good-byes.
We went to Trader Joe's before heading home.
The store was so refreshingly cool for a hot day like today.
There wasn't a lot of people in the store either.
We got some goodies and headed home to drop them off before heading over to Dominic's.

If you would like to visit Alf museum or Memorial Park keep reading.

Heritage Park

July 3, 2009

We went to Heritage Park in Diamond Bar.
The kids had fun playing with sand.
It was a shame that Christopher and Jacob could not join us.
There is always next time.
Photos here from the park and later that day at Esther's house.

I found a site... Animoto where they make music videos from your pictures.
It's really easy to do. I just made a quick one without much thought.

Metrolink

June 19, 2009

We took the Metrolink to LA Union Station.
We had lunch in Koreatown and then came back home.
The whole day wasn't all that great.
There was a certain person that just ruined the day.
If you think you are that person, you probably are not person.
Don't want to write anymore.
I don't want to dwell on it.
If you happen to take another trip I'll write more in detail.

Happy Birthday Stephanie

June 1, 2009

Stephanie, you're getting so big.
Now you are three and soon you'll be a big sister.
Hope you had a good time on your special day.
We had lots of fun.
Have a safe summer. =)

Children's Museum

May 30, 2009

The boys and I went to the Children's Museum.
I didn't get any really good pictures.
I didn't get many pictures period because my camera died on me.
I must remember to charge the camera battery or just lug the big digital SLR.

Joseph and Matthew really like the market place and model trains...
Joseph doesn't really like the dress-up area.
It's always so dark in there and it's just not his thing I guess.
Matthew doesn't seem to have much interest in it either.

They have a new permanant exhibit.
It is the Green 'N' Clean Energy Station.
It features an interactive car, fueling station, and gear wall.
Too bad I don't have pictures. Maybe next time.

Rowland Heights Park

Rowland Heights Park
1500 Banida Ave
Rowland Heights, CA 91748
626) 912-6774

Today was the last day of RACE Mommy and Me class.
We had our last day of class celebration at Rowland Heights Park.
The weather was kind of gloomy, but luckily no rain.

Hot Dogs ... the main dish for lunch.
Matthew ate the hot dog (just the meat), while Joseph ate the bun.
Matthew doesn't really like bread.
Joseph... I don't know he likes meat, but I guess not hot dogs.

They had fun in the sand and just plain running around and screaming.
Look Matthew and Kasey playing together.

It was nice to see Kathy, Sally (Kathy's mom), Lucas, and 7 week old Noah. So cute. I tried to take a picture of Kathy and Lucas together while Lucas was on the swing, but the pictures came out all blurry. Sorry Kathy. I did get a shot of baby Noah though.

Grand Avenue Park/ Tanaka Farms

May 26, 2009

Playdate at Grand Avenue Park in Chino Hills.

After school Helen 언니, Jeremiah, Joseph, Matthew, and I went to the park to meet 지혜 언니 and her daughter Leighna. Probably our last meeting before Leighna and her family move to Torrance. I wish I had taken more pictures. 지혜 언니 bought a lot of goodies to eat and the kids had a blast playing in the sand. My boys were very tired playing all day long after school until four o'clock. They had a good bath and a good night sleep. After all the next day... Field trip to the strawberry fields.

More pictures here.

May 27, 2009

School Field Trip to Tanaka Farms pictures here.

We woke up early despite a long day the day before.
We got to the school parking lot with time to spare.
Joseph and Matthew were good on the bus and enjoyed the ride very much.
Thank goodness, but generally they are good boys when we go out.

After checking in we all got in the wagon pulled by a tractor. Farmer Jamie, I think that was her name, was our tour guide. Do you know what the difference between a fruit and a vegetable is? Many people don't exactly know. Beans, corn, and eggplants are all fruits. Basically, anything with seeds are fruits. I don't know where I learned this, but this wasn't anything new to me, but it was very educational.

So during the tractor ride we stopped here and there to hear some more good things and also to try some fresh vegetables and fruits. We got to taste string beans, corn, carrots... etc and of course strawberries. The last stop before the end of the tour was of course the strawberry field where we got to pick our own strawberries.

Picking strawberries was a lot of fun. I did most of the picking though. I told the boys to eat the strawberries while I picked, but for some reason my strawberry lovers had a slow start. Matthew and I ate a lot more than Joseph. Joseph was too concerned about filling up his container with green strawberries. Well, not all green. He wanted at least one green strawberry to take home though. I wish we had more time to pick strawberries, but I suppose if there was no time limit all the strawberries would be gone.

If you've never been to Tanaka Farms I recommend you go. Strawberry tours go on til the end of June and also they have other tours depending on the season. Check out my other post here for more information.

Poopy Penny

Can you believe it?
Joseph swallowed a penny yesterday.
I don't know what exactly happened, but he came running to me, clearing his throat, and said 엄마, 돈 먹었어.
After asking him many questions we concluded that he really did swallow a coin and that it was a penny.

You hear stories of babies and young children swallowing small objects.
I don't know... is Joseph who is four years old considered a young child?
Perhaps he is... but he knows better than to go swallow non-edible small objects.

So, are you wondering what happened?
Did we have to go to the emergency room?

We didn't have to go to the emergency room.
We waited for nature to take it's course.
No penny in the morning.
After lunch today though.... what's this?
A brand new shiny 2009 penny.
How lucky is that.

Pantera Park Play Date

Today I skipped out on my accupuncture appointment to go to the park.
Joseph and Matthew had a good time.
It was good for me too.

Easter Activities

Monday, April 6, 2009

Rowland Easter Egg Hunt

I forgot to take milk containers to collect the scattered plastic eggs. Actually, I didn't take them on purpose. Anyhow, I only had the one bag to collect both Joseph and Matthew's eggs.

As you can see they both wanted to carry the bag. Matthew is on top of Joseph trying to take the bag. Later on they decided to carry the bag together. Which was very good. I'm glad they are learning to cooperate more with each other.

Shadow Oak Center Easter Celebration

We had a good time. Good food and fun games. Joseph didn't want to participate in any of the games and so we all just watched. Mostly, both of them were running around chasing each other working up a sweat.

Above: Matthew caught Joseph and tackled him to the ground.
To the right: Joseph found an egg with his name on it.
More pictures here.

Easter Egg Craft at Home

Huntington Library

April 2, 2009

Originally, we had 10 people going all together.
Then, as you know things happen last minute...
My boys and I ended up going by ourselves ... just the three of us.
We did briefly meet Dominic, EJ, and her friend later in the afternoon though.

Picture to the right... Joseph noticed that we have this very plant in front of our home. I wasn't sure so I took a picture. I must say Joseph is very observant of his surroundings. Maybe that goes for all kids.

Check out more pictures here.
I would have taken more pictures, but my camera's battery died.
Go here to check out pictures that Dominic's mom took when we met up.

Bowling Field Trip from Mommy and Me

Today we went bowling to Oak Tree Lanes in Diamond Bar.
Joseph and Matthew didn't want to bowl.
I had to bowl carrying Matthew because he wouldn't let go of me.
Don't know why, but he was a bit scared.
They did like the candy/prize display.
Everything is so expensive.
